What is AcceleDent?
AcceleDent is a portable, hands-free, Class II FDA-approved device that relies on SoftPulse technology to make tooth movement up to 50% faster. It’s an adjunctive therapy, meaning we use it in combination with your regular orthodontic treatment, including Invisalign, metal braces and clear braces. Not only does it drastically reduce your treatment time and lessen discomfort, it’s painless, non-invasive and removable (no sleeping in funky headgear).
How Does AcceleDent Work?
The AcceleDent braces accessory consists of a mouthpiece that is attached to an activator. You bite down on said mouthpiece and the patented SoftPulse Technology unleashes gentle vibrations (so gentle, in fact, it exerts less force than your typical electric toothbrush). These tiny micropulses accelerate tooth movement and speed up the rate of bone remodeling compared to static, constant pressure. You get straight teeth in less time.
How Do I Use AcceleDent?
AcceleDent is easy to use and since it’s hands-free, you can check your email, scroll through your Instagram feed or do whatever you’d like during your daily session. Simply plug the mouthpiece into the activator, turn on the activator, put the mouthpiece into your mouth and bite down firmly to keep it in place. Sit back and relax while it generates vibrations for 20 minutes.
You’ll want to use AcceleDent for the entire, continuous 20-minute session each day at around the same time. Note that using it for more than 20 minutes per day won’t increase the benefits, so stick with one session daily. The FastTrac Usage report includes a daily usage graph so you can stay on schedule.
How Often Will I Need to See Dr. Sharma When Using AcceleDent?
While you’ll need fewer visits overall to complete your treatment, the frequency of your appointments won’t change. The good news? Your teeth will be moving more quickly into place between visits. If you’re using AcceleDent with Invisalign, you’ll swap out your aligner trays more often. If you’re undergoing traditional braces treatment with AcceleDent, you’ll still see Dr. Sharma every four to six weeks or so.
How Do I Care For My AcceleDent?
To keep your AcceleDent humming along, recharge the activator every three days. You can do this by connecting it to your computer with the USB cord or plugging it into the wall with the power adaptor. When the LED light turns fully green again, it’s good to go.
Of course, you’ll also want to keep your AcceleDent device clean. Detach the mouthpiece from the activator and rinse it with lukewarm water after using it. Every so often, gently brush the mouthpiece using toothpaste, a mild soap or soft liquid dishwashing detergent. Let it air dry before popping it back into its travel case. The activator isn’t waterproof, so just wipe that down with a soft cloth as needed.
Is AcceleDent Safe?
Yes, AcceleDent is safe. It has been FDA-approved as a Class II medical device and clinical trials have indicated no adverse effects. While the appliance itself is new to orthodontics, the technology is similar to the pulses that are used to heal bone fractures and improve bone density, which have been studied since the 1980s.
Am I a Candidate For AcceleDent?
AcceleDent works for a variety of cases and is compatible with both braces and Invisalign. It’s safe for patients of any age. However, it’s available by prescription only, so you’ll need to make an appointment with Dr. Sharma for a consultation.
