Frequently Asked Questions
Q: What is an online check-in?
A: For your convenience, we offer online check-ins. If you have an issue or problem or just want to make sure your treatment is on track, you don’t need to wait for your next in-person appointment to connect with an orthodontist. Instead, you can start a virtual visit with us by using this form. Fill in your information, attach a few photos and let us know how your treatment is going! We’ll review your details and one of our orthodontists will get back to you with instructions. If needed, we’ll set up a time to chat.
Q: What happens if I refer a family member or friend to Aura Orthodontics?
A: We’re always honoured when a patient refers a friend or family member to Aura Orthodontics. As a thank you, when you refer someone, you’ll receive $100 when they start treatment with us. Simply have your friend or family member mention your name when they’re at our office for their appointment.

Q: Help! I have a braces emergency. What should I do?
A: First, we have to say, a true braces emergency is rare and most issues can be handled at home, at least until you’re able to come in for a visit. Watch this video by Dr. Sharma to learn how to deal with common braces problems, including broken brackets, poking wires and discomfort. You can also complete an online check-in or give us a call for further help and to see if you need to schedule a repair appointment.
Q: What should I do if my braces are rubbing against the inside of my mouth?
A: The sensation of your braces rubbing against the inside of your mouth is very common and most likely caused by a cinch. A cinch is a wire lock that’s placed in the back of your mouth. It may rub against the inside of your cheek, creating friction and causing irritation. While it can be uncomfortable, it’s normal and not an emergency. Your mouth will “toughen up” in a few weeks and this irritation will stop. In the meantime, if it’s really bothersome, you can cover the cinch with a clean cotton ball or orthodontic relief wax. The cotton or wax will act as a barrier between your braces and your cheeks and remedy the situation!
Q: Where can I find more information about orthodontic treatment and/or caring for my appliance?
A: In addition to the information on our website, you can find helpful guidance and tips on our YouTube channel. We have videos on everything from how to brush and floss with braces to dealing with common braces problems.
